Our Process
Rasmussen Custom Cabinetry starts with raw wood and crafts it into cabinets that fit your project specifications. Educating our customers on the process of designing and crafting cabinets will help make the process easier for all of us. Having proper measurements, a design style in mind, and your non-negotiables before coming to our team to start your project.
Step 1- Project Overview
Your process starts with meeting an RCC designer who will show you multiple options for woods, stains, crown molding, doors, and more. Homeowners will need to have a floor plan of their home, measurements of the space where they want cabinets, window and door placements, ceiling heights, and placement of large appliances.
If you are remodeling, we will need to know your plans and what space we have to work within an existing home. If you have rough ideas, RCC can put them in a simple layout to help you visualize what new cabinets will look like in your current layout.
The project overview is the best time to ask questions and get tips from the experts. Our design team can help you determine what options will fit well in your home, stay within your budget, and help improve your lifestyle. The start of a project will go smoother when you have some inspiration and come with questions prepared.
Step 2- Design Decisions
Once we have the specs for your home, we can start discussing the custom options and designs that make your cabinets visually appealing. There are smaller steps inside the design process that need to be completed before we start building your cabinets.
First, you need to choose a wood type. Rasmussen offers a base package that is the most affordable for homeowners who are on a budget. This base package includes:
- Knotty Alder wood cabinets
- 12 colors of stains to help you customize the look of your wood
- The choice of square, traditional, or cove crown molding
- Free satin nickel or oil-rubbed bronze knobs for each cabinet
- Undermount soft-close drawer glide
- Soft-close door hinges
- Baltic birch construction drawers with dovetail drawer box
For homeowners who have the budget to customize every element of their cabinets, there are many paints, stains, accessories, and door styles to choose from. You can find all the options available under our Design Center tab on our website.
Step 3- Material Choices
We have multiple wood types in Rustic and Clear styles. Rustic will have more variety and knotting, while Clear will have less of a wood grain look. There are wood types with cooler undertones and warmer undertones, which can work well in a variety of home types. Working with wood means that there will be variation between all cabinets. Not all of your cabinets will look the same when they are hand-crafted by our team.
Popular wood options that we offer include:
- Cherry
- Hickory
- Maple
- Rift Oak
- Walnut
Step 4- Layout Approval
Once you have made all the design decisions, we send them to our drafting team and they will develop a more in-depth layout of your project. Our development team will provide homeowners with a birds-eye view of your plan, specifics on pull-out elements and door styles of each cabinet, close-up pictures of hardware and other accessories, and your pricing estimate.
Once you have this plan, make sure you go over it with a tooth comb and make any revisions. This will ensure that your cabinets look pristine and that large appliances fit under or around your cabinet set. If any plumbing or electrical plans change, you will need to let our team know as this could impact the layout of your cabinets.
Step 5- Finalize Your Order
Once the layout is finalized, we will send you a contract that you will have to sign before we manufacture your cabinets. Any changes after the contract is signed will delay your project significantly.
Customers will pay 60% of the payment when signing the contract and the other 30% once the cabinets are delivered. The final 10% will be paid after the cabinets are installed in your home.
Step 6- Project Schedule
Here is an approximate timeline of residential cabinet projects.
Once we have manufactured your cabinets, we will work with clients to determine the best day to install cabinet sets. You will need to remove obstacles or debris from the home when our installers come to your home. Installation timelines can vary from project to project. Our team will do our best to work quickly and efficiently on your project. Installing cabinets right the first time is important to us, but some touch-ups or revisions may need to be made for a few weeks after installation. Following this process will help you achieve the best cabinets that help improve the functionality of your space.
