During your cabinet design process, you will need to choose a cabinet wood type for your custom cabinets. There are many different types of wood in the world, but Rasmussen offers some specific options to help ensure your cabinets are durable and resistant to damage. Many wood types come with different grains and colors that can fit your home style.
Below are all of the cabinet wood types we offer here at RCC and how you can customize them to match the rest of your home materials. Our base package includes Knotty Alder Wood, but we also offer additional upgrades for every budget.
Knotty Alder
Knotty Alder has a unique charm compared to other cabinet wood types. It has mineral streaks, and naturally occurring imperfections that will make any home feel more earthy. Knotty Alder has a light brown hue but can be stained by one of our 12 stain options at RCC to achieve a darker look.
This wood type is easier to work with and can be crafted into cabinets quickly to help your home be more functional. Knotty Alder wood is offered in our base package because it is easy to obtain, affordable, timeless, and easily stained.
Cherry
This cabinet wood type is great for homes that need some warmth. Cherry wood is a reddish-brown hue that will help your space feel cozy. Cherry wood has a smoother grain than other wood varieties, which makes it a good choice for sophisticated home designs. Cherry wood is a classic option that is durable.
Rasmussen offers Cherry and Rustic Cherry wood varieties for customers. Rustic Cherry has knotting, which will be better for farmhouse design styles, while Cherry without knots is better for modern homes.
Hickory
Hickory wood is known for tons of variation and banding. It has a mixture of light and dark tones and a pronounced grain. If you are going for a natural and cozy home design, Hickory is a great choice. Rasmussen carries Rustic Hickory Calico to provide clients with the most color and banding variation possible.
While you can use this cabinet wood type in all areas of your home, it is typically found in kitchens and living rooms. The strength of Hickory makes it great for homeowners because it can withstand consistent use. If you have a busy household or include Hickory cabinets in a workshop, you will know that they are built to last.
Maple
Most Maple woods have a creamy color and a more uniform grain pattern. Our Rustic Maple option is the best wood for staining because homeowners can achieve any type of look with Maple wood. It is very versatile and is almost a blank canvas for homeowners to show off their creativity. Our cabinet designers often stain or paint Maple cabinets for kitchens, bathrooms, home offices, or living room storage. Maple is another sturdy wood that is more resistant to moisture damage and scratching. This cabinet wood type is a timeless option that will seldom go out of style. It is easy to match with many design styles and colors of flooring, countertops, and paint.
Rift White Oak
In the coming years, our Rift White Oak will be a popular wood choice for modern homes. Rasmussen offers Rift White and Rift Red Oak that can fit different home budgets. Rift Oak is also a wood that is easily stained to many color variations because it has a neutral undertone. This wood type is best used in contemporary and modern interiors while still adding some warmth to the room.
Rift Oak has exceptional durability to high use and is scratch-resistant. The are a timeless investment for a modern home because they offer a sleek look that will last for decades.
Rustic Walnut
Walnut has deeper undertones than Oak or Maple but can be stained to different colors. Once the stain is applied, it will typically appear darker on Walnut than on other wood types. Rustic Walnut is a wood type that many of our customers choose because it looks modern, but still brings a natural feel to the home. Walnut has intricate grains that appear in small and compact patterns. This gives Walnut wood more natural variations that feel expensive. Although Walnut has deep grains and knotting, it is just as durable as the other woods we offer at RCC.
Red Oak-Plain Swan
For homeowners who like the look and feel of Rift Oak, but can’t afford the price tag, we suggest Red Oak-Plain Swan. Many homeowners choose to stain their cabinets a dark color, which will hide more of the red undertones of the wood. Red Oak can be disguised as a different cabinet wood type when it is stained or painted.
Transitional and traditional homes can benefit from Red Oak-Plain Swan wood from RCC. Although it is considered a rustic style wood, it provides timeless beauty for different home designs. Even if your home has more cool tones, proper staining from our experts can help Red Oak work for you.
