At Rasmussen Custom Cabinetry, we understand the importance of creating a partnership with our customers. When you work with us, you’ll be an integral part of the process, from the initial consultation to the installation date and beyond. We encourage you to take an active role in all decisions, ensuring the finished product meets your expectations and that you truly love your custom cabinets.
Here are some questions you should consider asking our team as you navigate the design, production, and installation phases to help you make informed decisions about your custom cabinets.
1. Can You Help Me Decide What Custom Cabinets Would Work Best in My Home?
The first step in our process is a meeting with one of our expert designers, who will show you an overview of our different products. From wood types and stain colors to door styles and crown molding, this initial consultation helps us get an idea of what you’re looking for, your budget, and the scope of your project.
We recognize that not every homeowner is an interior designer, which is why we’re happy to discuss your needs, preferences, and ideas, then develop a simple layout to help you visualize what your new custom cabinets will look like in your space. This exploratory phase gives you the opportunity to try out different options and find what works best for you.
2. What Measurements Do I Need to Provide?
To get the most out of your initial consultation, you’ll need to come prepared with the following measurements and information:
- Floor plans
- Ceiling heights
- Location of doors and windows
- Placement of large appliances
- Dimensions of the area you want your cabinets to be
- Layout of plumbing and electrical components
This information will guide your conversations with our designers and ensure they recommend options that work within the constraints of your specific space.
3. What Design Options Do You Offer?
At Rasmussen, we transform raw materials into high-quality custom cabinets that are made to your exact specifications. If you decide to go with fully custom cabinets, the sky’s the limit! However, if you’re on a stricter budget, our base package includes:
- Knotty alder wood cabinets
- The choice between 12 stain colors to customize the wood’s appearance
- Traditional, square, or cove crown molding
- Satin nickel or oil-rubbed bronze knobs for each cabinet
- Undermount soft-close drawer glide and soft-close door hinges
- Baltic birch construction drawers with dovetail drawer box
We also offer a selection of optional cabinet accessories to improve functionality and help you stay organized. Our accessories include:
- Organizers
- Pull-out shelves or trash cans
- Spice organizer drawers
- Hinges, handles, and pulls
- Tray dividers
- Pet food sections
4. What Are the Characteristics of Each Type of Wood?
We are proud to offer several different types of wood for your custom cabinets, each with its own unique appearance. We chose knotty alder wood as part of our base package because it’s easy to work with, abundant, affordable, and timeless. Its mineral streaks and natural imperfections create a unique, warm look.
Our other wood types include:
- Cherry: With its reddish-brown hue and smoother grain, cherry is ideal for classic, sophisticated designs.
- Hickory: Hickory wood’s mixture of light and dark tones and pronounced grain give it a natural, cozy look.
- Maple: Maple is like a blank canvas, making it the best wood for staining. It’s also incredibly resistant to scratches and moisture damage.
- Rift white oak: This wood is popular in modern homes. Its neutral undertone allows it to be stained many different colors.
- Rustic walnut: Thanks to its deeper undertones and intricate grain patterns, walnut wood looks and feels more expensive than it actually is.
- Plain-sawn red oak: A more affordable alternative to rift white oak, plain-sawn red oak provides rustic, timeless beauty.
5. How Do I Know What the Finished Product Will Look Like?
Once you’ve made all the design decisions, our drafting team will develop an in-depth plan that includes all the little details. After you’ve received this plan, you can go over everything to ensure it’s exactly what you envisioned and let us know if there’s anything you’d like to change.
6. What Is a Typical Project Schedule?
